For much of his career, Tagame worked as an art director and wrote manga, prose, and illustrations for various gay magazines. His breakout success came with the series The Toyed Man (1992-1993), which led him to co-found the seminal gay men's magazine G-men in 1995, allowing him to become a full-time manga artist.
